Sassafras:
I am Sassafras and my husband is Mick.

Mick and I own our own business called MisFiTs CenTRaL.  We travel to motorcycle shows across the nation selling our own line of sunglasses and goggles as well as sterling silver jewelry and other motorcycle related items.  We are hoping to open a shop in St. Ignace, Michigan this next spring -- cross your fingers.  ;)

We are Baha'is from the west Michigan area, but since we travel so much we do more travel teaching for the Faith while we are away than at home.  We hope to change that once we open up our store.

There is more information about us on our website HERE.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sassafras

I am Smokebender. I bend smoke. Your sunglasses are cool. They keep the smoke from my eyes. Put me on the list for the Grand Opening of your shop. I'll be there. This is my first post and I like it here. Am I a MisFIT?

misfitguy:
You just may be a misfit.  Time will tell or has already told.  A misfit is somebody that does what is right.  If you always do what is right, you will not always fit in.  Sometimes, I tell people, doing what is right may not be what is smart, but in retrospect, it was right.  For instance, I opened a store in Baldwin, MI in 2000.  Baldwin is located in Lake County, the poorest county in the State.  I opened it in October after the tourist season was over. Sounds goofy, hey?  Probably.  The reason we did this was a couple of years previous I had met an autistic lad and his father that lived near there and his father insisted that contact with me seemed to be bringing his son out of his autism.  So it was, what to hey, what else am I doing with my life.  We spent a year there and his son went from Special Education to a mainstream honor student.  It was remarkable.  So, even though the store was a bust as we expected it would be, it paid expenses and Sass and I "did what was right".  That is being a misfit.

I also let people know that it is OK to be a misfit.  They don't have to apologize for it or try to explain themselves anymore.  They can simply rejoice in being who they are.  When I first met Sassafras she told me once, very frustratingly she just wanted to fit in.  I warned her that she had better start running, because if she stuck with me, she wouldn't fit in for sure.  Well, she stuck with me, found out she was a misfit and it was OK and all those pressures of world that had been stifling her, simply disappeared.  There I go, ranting again.

Anyway, Smokebender, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Forum, Smokebender!   [welcome]

Concerning the store in St. Ignace, we did open it in the spring of 2008 and closed it after two months.  Just like the store we opened in Baldwin, we learned from our experiences.  When we open a store again, which we will, we feel as though it will be food related - restaurant, deli, cafe,... something.  We are confident we'll find a good formula when the time comes.

Glad you like your sunglasses!!  Welcome again to the Forum!!

You asked if you were a MisFiT.  Who else would join a forum dedicated to being a MisFiT?  So, by joining you are, in essence, a MisFiT.   (;D)b  So, Yes!!!

Warmly,
Sassafras

BTW,  What is a smoke bender?

Smokebender:
I knew I was a MisFiT long ago. I just wanted to see if you would agree. Thanks for the  [welcome]
