I know nothing of art

Smokebender:
When it comes to paintings I know nothing more than what pleases my eye. So the other day I bought a paiting for my wife. The painting and frame seemed very old. It was a work up of flowers and I hoped my wife would enjoy that. I never really looked the art work over that well. Instead I just payed the lady and left for home. Now at this point I know what you're thinking, and I started thinking the same way not long after arriving at home.

Later the very next day I had a visit from some good friends from the north. My friends asked some questions about the art.
At this point this is what I have. A wonderful old painting, a happy wife, and some unanswered questions.

I'm almost sure that this is not the end of this story. I for one will be checking this thread for new postings.

Smoke,

We just got home.  Give us a couple of more minutes.

In my first search, I found that Jean McIntosh Valleau, is a woman that painted in Saugatuck under the guidance of Carl Hoerman.  She was part of the Oxbow Summer School of Art which is part of Chicago's Summer College.  You can contact her son at valleaupens@hotmail.com  Maybe he can tell you something about his mothers art and the interest in it.

Look for the 10/23/2006 entry.

Wow that was fast. Thanks Mick. I will email Blake and return here to post.

BTW Sass are you able to post a photo of the painting here? Thank you both for your help with this.   [peace]
