Yeast
« on: August 18, 2009, 02:43:28 PM »
So "yeast extract" and "yeast nutrient" are out, but what if one of the ingredients is just "yeast"?  I'm having a hard time finding bread (that I don't have to make myself) that is safe to give my kid for lunch.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yeast is OK.  It's only when man dabbles with nature that MSG sensitive people have a problem - e.g. "(autolyzed) yeast extract" and "yeast nutrient".

Mick and I eat mostly dark rye or pumpernickel bread - Beefsteak brand is our favorite.  Mick is diabetic so we stay away from the white breads.  So far, breads are generally safe except sweet breads, like the ones with honey, sugar, maltodextrin, and dextrose.  The latter two because of MSG sensitivity.

Let us know if you have other questions about yeast and breads... let me know what you decide.  Just curious!

Again... Welcome!!

Thank you for your response!  I've just started to dabble in the art of removing MSG from my pantry.  It's definitely a challenge!

A huge challenge! I notice my fight with depression is much harder when I am not watching what I eat. I also was warned by my physician long ago that MSG's will bring on my migraines. Bad stuff that is. Good luck to you mamabear, it is not easy, but well worth the effort.
