Title: Moving to the U.P.
Post by: 333angel on August 13, 2009, 02:35:56 PM
OK, I am a troll. Have been all my life, but now am 89% sure I will be moving to the U.P. in about 3 weeks. I have some questions for the Yoopers on the board. ( W==(:D)==) HOW MUCH SNOW??? I really do not like snow. I think the snow we get down here  [censored] sucks. lol. How much more do you really get than us and how much longer does it last? I know it is the same state, but I have no clue. :-\. We are probably moving to the reservation in St. Ignace, depending on how the employment interview goes on Friday the 14th. So people, whats it like alllllllll the way up there? ~D~                          Thanks!     Melody

Melody,

We would love to see you move up here.  We have really enjoyed the times we have spent with you and, of course, we could hire you when we need extra help?????

We get about the same amount of snow here as we did in Muskegon.  The difference is it doesn't melt off like it does in Michigan.  So pretty much every flake that falls stays with us all winter.  Also, that means those miserable slushy days you hate, don't happen up here and since the temps stay below freezing, I think it is healthier and there are less colds and flus. On the other hand, you will see white snow all winter.  There is no pollution, so the snow stays spectacularly white.  Also, living in St. Ignace, we find that the temps in the winter are very similar to Muskegon and typically warmer than Grand Rapids.  This wouldn't be true ten miles north, but since st. Ignace sits on its own little peninsula with Lake Huron on the east side and Lake Michigan on the west side, and the prevail from the west, we simply don't get as cold as most of the rest of the UP.

Also, there is so much more sunshine here than there was in W. Michigan.  We love it here.  I hope you would as well.

Hello Mel,

Oh Goodie, Goodie Gum Drops!!!  You're goin' to be a Yooper!!!  Yahoo!!!

Mick is absolutely right about the weather.  The snow up here is nice compared to ANYWHERE in the lower peninsula.  You'll enjoy it up here!!

I'm so excited!!

  ~D~  Hi good people!
Well, tomorrow is pretty much the deciding factor. Job interview went well and we got the app. for tribal housing today! We should be hearing from the casino on the job either tomorrow or Thursday.  I am also looking forward to this and YES YES YES!!!!! I would love to help you guys out anytime! I miss working in the public. (Talk about a misfit, lol, I am no good in personal social situations, but I just love to work with and serving people) I will not have a job, I am attending online college for Criminal Justice full time. Imagine that, at 48 I am a college student. hahahaha. Also it will be nice to have friends near by. Hey, if you have any links to or know of any short term rentals, I would appreciate it if you could maybe post them on here or email them to me directly. I do not know how long it may take to get into the housing. Are there any other Yoopers on here??? Would love to get to know ya!
                                                                    Peace to all.      Melody

~D~ Sooooo excited! Recieved the paperwork for the drug testing today!!!! Which means one step closer to the job and moving to the U.P. !!!! d(BD)b  I can not believe I am this happy about seeing more snow! lol. But I think the pace will be much easier and my stress level will go down considerably. Muskegon just is no place to live... in my eyes anyway, not dis-ing anyone for living here, it just isn't for me. Wish us luck everyone!! wooooohoooooo  *=:)=*
