Food for thought

Not so long ago I was sat in the pub with a mate discussing the usual non sense when all of a sudden he came out with an absolute gem.

His thought was this:

"If the earths temperature rises by 1 degree then it changes the weather systems all around the world right?"
"So I'm told" I reply.
"And if every action has an equal and opposite re-action...?"
"yup" I'm looking a little perplexed by this point.
"Then surely if enough rockets take off from earth, space bound, and that puts tiny little changes in the way the earth spins, then that would have a monsterous effect on the weather. i.e. Global Warming - Changes the weather systems at any given point on the earth."

........

Silence ensued.

Interesting, and it reminds me of the statement,

"Balls," said the queen.  "If I would have had them, I would be the King." 

Global warming is caused from CO emissions, or so it is claimed.  I would assume that rocketry would be part of that.  I wonder if we lined up a huge amount of rockets on one side of the earth and touched them off, would we change the orbit of the earth?  Similar though, but usually these thoughts are best kept in the Pub where for a minute, they really seem profound.

I used to ask my friends the question, "If everyone on one side of the earth stood on chairs and all jumped off at the same time, would all the people on the other side of the earth bounce?"  They thought I was weird.  They were right.  I am.  And proud of it!   (BD)

Haha that makes me think of the Powerball effect...

If you took 6 Powerballs each one smaller than the next fay from a peach size down. Placing the smallest at the top of the pile getting bigger the further down you go.

Now imagine you could hold them in a a perfect stright line (vertical) and dropped them. If they hit the floor at the right time the force created within them would be enough to put the smallest ball at the top into orbit.

Thus your comment made me dribble my coffee at the idea of half the people in the world being suddenly blasted into space. haha what a great mental image.

I really tried to picture the ball illustration, but somehow my old brain kept getting lost.  But it did sound like one of those cool Physics problems I remember from school.
