What is Natural Flavors?
« on: August 15, 2011, 03:31:55 PM »
According to Adolph's (and Lawry's.com) Natural Flavors consists of Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Beef Extract, and Beef Tallow.  See below:

So, to the trash can you go Adolph and Lawry   (x), but we already know that about Lawry.

I would like to point out that any extract, whether it is a beef extract, garlic extract, etc is a form of excitotoxins.  Autolyzed yeast is also an excitotoxin that is 7 times worse than MSG.  The phrase "Natural Flavors", in essence has no meaning to us label readers and sufferers of excitotoxins.  In fact, it looks like one should stay away from things with Natural Flavors listed.  I will say, though, that Sassafras, one of the most sensitive individuals I know, can eat many things with Natural Flavors listed in the ingredients.  In fact, the real flag for her in this label is maltodextrin.

Now if you want to really hurt your head read the definition of Natural Flavors..."The definition of natural flavor under the Code of Federal Regulations is: “the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional” (21CFR101.22). "

Now that just clears everything up, doesn't it.
