Title: Saffron Road Foods
Post by: Sassafras on August 16, 2011, 08:57:47 PM
I did a common News search on Google for "monosodium glutamate" and found a new broth on the market claiming no MSG.

The URL didn't take me directly to their site, but a promotion site Natural Products Marketplace (http://www.naturalproductsmarketplace.com/news/2011/08/saffron-road-all-natural-premium-broths.aspx/).

STAMFORD, Conn.—Saffron Road introduced a line of three all-natural, halal certified premium broths. The gluten-free broths may be used with vegetables, soups or leftovers and can promote digestive, joint and respiratory health.

The line includes the following varieties:

  • Artisan Roasted Halal Chicken Broth: A low-fat broth made with Certified Humane® chicken, hand-picked ingredients, roasted root vegetables, bay leafs, thyme and no monosodium glutamate (MSG).
  • Traditional Halal Chicken Broth: A low-sodium broth made with all-natural halal chicken, vegetables, herbs and no MSG.
  • Classic Culinary Halal Vegetable Broth: A low-sodium, vegan blend of carrots, onions, celery, tomatoes, parsley, leeks, mushrooms and no MSG or gelatin.

This site sends viewers to the Saffron Road Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/SaffronRoadFood) page.

From there viewers have to use their internet surfing smarts to find the Saffron Road website which is http://www.saffronroadfood.com/.

Now, I give our readers this step-by-step information because Natural Products Marketplace is the ONLY site that give the "no MSG" claim.  The Saffron Road Foods website DOES NOT claim any such thing.  The food site does claim their Classic Culinary Vegetable Broth is "Vegetable Broth is 100% Vegetarian and Vegan", but not no MSG.

I did my own research by looking at the ingredients list for each broth offered:
http://www.saffronroadfood.com/our-products/broths/artisan-roasted-chicken-broth/
http://www.saffronroadfood.com/our-products/broths/traditional-chicken-broth/
http://www.saffronroadfood.com/our-products/broths/classic-culinary-vegetable-broth/

There are variations between the three broths, but the ingredients that pop out at me with flashing yellow lights are Stock of various meats and vegetables, Natural Flavor(s), and Spice(s).

Almost thought we had a new item on the market thinking about MSG sensitive people, but we don't.  Or at least I would not trust any of these broths.
