Rachel Maddow: Bush's Legacy
« on: September 23, 2008, 10:19:53 AM »
I was watching the Rachel Maddow Show last night who talked about the "Four Massive Country Changing Failures" which will define the "Bush Legacy" and the arguable consideration that Bush will be among the "worst presidents in US history".

Highlights of last night's show:
"1932 was the last year that we held a presidential elect in the mist of a truly massive financial crisis."
[That was when] Hubert Hoover (incumbent Republican) lost all but 6 states to FDR (Democrat).

"There has long been a running argument of whether our current president ought to be considered among the worst presidents in US history like Hubert Hoover, Andrew Johnson, and Warren G. Harding."  (James Buchanan and Richard Nixon were added to the list later in the interview.)

"Bush's Legacy will be defined by Four Massive Country Changing Failures":
1.)  September 11, 2001
2.)  Iraq War
3.)  The City of New Orleans (Katrina)
4.)  Economic Meltdown

"So that's 8 years, four crises, each one awful enough on its own to brand any presidency an abject failure and we got it all done with just one guy.  Bargain!"

I would have to agree that Bush is among the worst.  Now, it's a matter of IS he the worst or just close to the top?  Also, I wonder if these 4 failures would adequately sum up the Bush Legacy.

Your thoughts!

And I think that Rachel Maddow missed the incredible increase of crude oil and the 500 billion given to Halliburton by offering them no-bid contracts, knowing that Cheney resigned as CEO of Halliburton to accept the V-Pres nomination.  Maybe we can throw the hiring of Blackwater, a private military company, giving them a war with no oversight by anybody and allowing them to extend themselves into the US under numerous names with the same goal, to install small private military groups near important sites (recently an attempt to settle themselves into the little town of Pellston, MI which has an airport that can take the largest jets) and ask for subsidy from the local government as well.  Ugly.  We can't get these guys out of power fast enough.
