The morning after
« on: November 08, 2006, 07:52:06 AM »
I am writing this the morning after the election.  The Democratic party is now in control of the House of Representatives and the Senate race is tied at 49-49 while we wait for two very close races in VA and MT where the Democrats are leading.

What does this all mean?  Does it mean that everything will change that frustrated the voters these past two years?  Does it mean that corruption will cease or maybe that the corrupt will now be found out? Maybe we'll now bring our soldiers home. Or does it mean that the President may soon be facing an impeachment hearing?  It could mean all of these things and a couple of hundred more, if you listen to the analysts that are busy opining about their opinions.

What it doesn't mean is that there is going to be much change in America or the world.  The power center has changed from right to left, but corruption is still a problem in a two party system that is driven by special interest groups.  The greatness of our country is not the political system nor the vote that is given to each of us. History has proven that both can be corrupted and abused by those in a position to abuse them.  The greatness of our country is, simply put, The US Constitution. It is the checks and balances that are designed in that constitution working that makes this country great.  It is the concern for humanity that is assured by the constitution that makes this country great.  This is what we should be celebrating today and this is what we should be guarding from attack.

There is nothing that we could give developing nations more valuable than our Bill of Rights. There is nothing that could be more important than to share the history of a viable form of government that has built in checks and balances as this country has.  Let us hope that Americans will learn this and when they "wave the flag", it is a flag that represents needs and hopes of all the citizens of the world.

Politics and political parties will never be the solution to the worlds needs. They are the problem.  Politicians will never lead this world to peace without the citizens insisting on it.  Our leaders will never wipe out hunger without the "peoples of the world", demanding it and so we must.  We must never be quiet and we must always take advantage to share our voice whenever the opportunity is given.

The "Patriot Act" pretty much took that whole "checks and balances" thing out of the equation.

There's no big mystery why Iraq can't form a proper gov't... their advisers have forgotten where they came from.  When you're the son of a former president, i dont' suspect you really give a shit either about history outside of your family's own.
