33 cents a Gallon Gas in Wisconsin Reveals Thieves Among Us

Thieves!!!.... Stealing gas. Unfriggin' Believable!!
It doesn't matter if you pay for it. It doesn't matter if it was someone else's mistake. You're still thieves! Everyone of you! You know who you are! Yeah, I'm talking to you!! You knew it was a mistake. You knew that it was wrong, but you did it anyway. Call the police?... NO, YOU DID NOT!! Say, "This is wrong! Stop!!"... NO, YOU DID NOT!! Thinking only about yourself... how that little amount of gas is going to help you... how it's going to make your life better. How better is your life going to be now, THIEF?
There were 42 thieves who pumped 586 gallons of gas in an hour and 45 minutes. Lets do some math:
586 (gallons) x $3.299 (ppg) = $1933.214
586 (gallons) x $0.329 (ppg) = $0192.794
42 thieves saved... $1740.42... by stealing!
The person who pumped the most gas, 27 gallons, saved a grand total of $80.19.

You shouldn't!! You should feel like the scum of the earth. You should feel like a criminal. You should feel like a thief. You should feel ashamed.

I've been totally obsessing over this 33 cent gasoline incident. I did a google search and read comments from other people. I found a Teacher's Forum, an active WebBlog, a Military Forum, an Artist buy/sell website (which I had ironically joined only two days prior to... the incident), a Fantasy Forum, and an Auto Blog, just to name a few.
I am shocked over most of the comments I read. These comments were from "dishonest??? How could it be dishonest if it was someone else's mistake" to "I would've done it too" to "gas prices are so high, it is nice to get a break... I wish I was there" to "it's like winning the lotto" or "getting free beer" to "one of my friends live there and his boss told him to fill up some boats - the ones with the large gas tanks".
One of the forums have a poll asking Yes, I'd fill 'er up! or No, I'd lay off, knowing it was probably a mistake. Results: 9 out of 10 said yes. What the frick is wrong with people? Do 1 out of 10 people have morals and 9 out of 10 lie, cheat, and steal?
There were a few - 10% to be exact - of the people that questioned other people's ethical motives. You are true MisFiTs. Doing what's right. I do not mean what everybody else says is right, but, really, what is right. Thank you. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for marching to the beat of your own drum rather than someone else's. Thank you for making your own foot steps rather than following in someone else's. Thank you for questioning the norm when it just doesn't seem right... when you know it just isn't right.
Do you know what really scares the crap out of me? The same 9 out of 10 people are going to be voting for our next president and congressmen and senators and legislators and local officials. These same 9 out of 10 people are going to breed and teach there children that selective thievery is OK; that morals are relative and just as long as you can justify it, it can't be bad. I would bet, these same 9 out of 10 people could not if asked recite two elements of the Bill of Rights what more understand the importance of protecting them from degradation by despotic rulers.

God, I hate thieves. Years ago I came to realize something was going on. I watched everybody that entered our business. Everybody, it seemed, was becoming willing to steal if they thought they could get away with it. In fact, that seems to be the key. If they can get away with it, in their minds, it isn't stealing. One of my rants is that a value/moral system has seem to have been "blown to the wind", in recent years. Everybody seems to think it is relative. That values are like opinions. Everybody has their own. WRONG!!!
Values can be ticked off on one hand.
1. It it isn't yours, don't take it.
2. Don't hit.
3. Wait your turn.
4. Don't gossip.
5. Share.
Remember these? Same ones our parents/teachers demanded from us. Of course, the problem being is they didn't follow these themselves, so people seemed to decide that is was some kiddie thing, I guess.
Have you ever been on an expressway where a lane is being closed and most everybody starts to get over into the remaining lane? There are always some who think it is ok to pass everybody else to jump the line and go to the front. Of course this simply makes the wait longer for everybody else, but to those that are jumping the line, it doesn't seem to matter. Look at rule number 3. "Wait your turn."
Concerning the thievery of the gasoline. There is nobody that could convince me that they didn't know that an error had been made. So, they stole $2.90 a gallon. How sad. I can't imagine anybody's life becoming better because they managed to steal a couple of gallons of gas. I can imagine that some of these people will spend the rest of their lives regretting it. I can also imagine that some of these people will spend the rest of their lives gloating about it. Look at rule number 1 above.
I would ask each of these people this question. "Suppose you were walking behind somebody and you watched them drop a hundred bill. Would you pick it up and pocket it? Would you try to get the persons attention? Would you pick it up and return it to the party that lost it?" Suppose the person was a little old lady? Suppose the person was of another race or ethnic you didn't like? Suppose the person was obviously rich? Would any of these things change what you would do? It sure shouldn't.
Listen, people, everything we own, everything we possess can be taken from us except our values. That is something we have to give away.
Our school systems need to teach values over the three R's. Of course that is a lot to ask of teachers that haven't developed their own value system. Our parents need to teach values before how to be cool. Again, a lot to ask of people that don't have a value system themselves.

Well, there is this little thing called guilt and if that doesn't work, there is always the fear of God and a slap upside the head with a loud booming voice saying, "Dumb-ass"!!
