I think this one is the most intriguing painting I found among the links you gave.  I do like the technique Thomas Cole presents in his paintings, though, these types of paintings wouldn't be on my top-five list, maybe my top-ten list.  I had taken a few art history classes back in college and I would have to say I like pointillism and cubism a bit more.  Having said that, though, if you happen to stick me in an art gallery with various types of paintings, I would admire every one of them as if they could be my absolute favorite.

I read a biography of Cole and then his only pupil, Frederic Church.  Church, after suffering from a heartache which had impaired his right hand, had to start painting with his left hand. This proved to be considerably less profitable, so Church had turned his artistic talent toward creating a masterpiece of a home and surrounding landscape.
